I had the chance to work with Iman Vellani (aka Ms. Marvel) for the second time at her comic book signing via Heroes World this week. How did that happen you ask? Well let's rewind to a really quick, but amazing origin story.
A few years ago, Iman was a Marvel fanatic who would head to her favourite comic book store (Heroes World) which was across from her high school Unionville HS (represent!!) One of the two store owners, Andre, would give Iman his favourite picks whenever she would come in - he also mentioned that there was a Pakistani super hero called Ms. Marvel who had her own comic book stories as well. This intrigued Iman to the core.
Fast forward a couple of years and now Iman is not only Ms. Marvel in the MCU, but also writing for the character in the official Marvel comic books as well! Well, Iman never forgot her roots and has continuously shown Heroes World love far after rising to fame. She even put Andre in her debut Ms. Marvel comic as his own character!
As a longtime friend of Andre (and Jon), and as a part of Team Heroes World for quite a few years now, I have been given the wonderful opportunity to help with their events. Being an actor myself, it's always great to see others in the profession staying true to themselves and treating others with kindness. Iman is no exception to this rule - she literally stayed at her table and signed autographs for five hours straight without a break - and for that I wish her a career full of success and longevity!!
